JOBS. INTERVIEWS.
💻 📝
I used to get terrified hearing those words.
And that is okay!
Who doesn't love being pounded by questions and judged for being who you are? It can be very intimidating. Well, I have some insight on how I remain confident during an interview. I will touch on outfits, documents, and Q&A help.
The Timeline of Tips
Prior to interview:
2 days before I go into an interview I begin prepping my outfit and my answers!
Now you may ask, "Answers?!?" But nowadays you can either look up on Glassdoor or just Google in general for the company you are meeting with and their common interview questions. I try to link back my jobs to skills --> VERY important. Lots of people my age struggle with how to showcase their skills from their resume. For help, here are some common things I set up in a notebook a day or two out from the interview: (Try it--I know it seems stupid-- but it helps)
Write down key skills (that you can do) from the job description ✔️
Write down your job experiences ✔️
Write down your current day-to-day tasks you do for that job ✔️
Write down YOUR skills and tie them into different jobs you have had ✔️
IMPORTANT: Write down QUESTIONS you have (ex: A day in the job/expectations/why THEY chose this company/how do THEY like their job/what is success in this field) ✔️
Outfit prep: Buy a steamer if you can, I love using this easy tool for my dresses/trousers/blazers. If you are looking to save some money Walmart, Target, & Amazon have handy steamers for under $25! I love mine from Walmart. 👔
The best places I have found to get affordable business casual/professional is Express! I absolutely love their options. Blouses/Skirts/Blazers/Trousers/Suit Sets/Accessories
Print out your resume and reference sheet for your pad-folio (Here is one for $16!!)
I also recommend making sure you have a proper amount of notebook paper and a pen in your pad-folio. Taking notes during an interview shows you are engaged! 📁
The Interview Day:
Plan your time wisely. Are you a late person? Arrive 20-30 minutes early.
Is it during a time you would normally eat? Pack a before and after snack.
Coffee make you jittery but you need it to live? Take it early enough before the interview.
Keep the makeup simple (if you wear it) and make sure your hair is out of your face!
You want to look the employer in the eyes and for them to see yours!
Remember the 3C’s
Connect: Build a connection with them --> Ask them why they like this company and their job/ or find something to relate to professionally. ✔️
Communicate value: Why a job in ___? Talk about and demonstrate your skills. ✔️
Close: Be interested in knowing the next steps/get contact info--> "I am just wondering what the next steps are?" "Did you have any concerns about me? Anything from my resume I can clear up for you?" "I'm interested in this to become better!" ✔️
I hope this helps anyone who is nervous about an interview!
The 3C's and my notebook prep are two big things that gave me a lot of confidence during an interview! I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday. Please don't hesitate to reach out for new blog post ideas, feedback, whatever! 😆
XOXO
